| How often have we "loved" ... just to fill some
void within ourselves? Because we were empty ... because we needed to
validate or define ourselves ... because the world says that finding your
other half is the only way to become whole. You know the famously
played out line from Jerry McGuire ... You complete me.
How often
have we "loved" so that we could feel better about who we are?
And how often have we found ourselves bitter or angry as a result?
Not that we enter into such relationships conscious of this "all about me"
agenda that we tend to have. And maybe that's the problem. When we love in this way, our love is stripped of the purity it's meant to have ... no longer is it love ... but another way of serving ourselves. Another path to disappointment, hurt, resentment. Because no matter how great a person may be, he or she cannot be your everything.
"The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love."
Faith. Love. Faith first, then love.
So today, I was reminded again....
